Tanner started his tumbling career when he was 12, right here at Castle Rock School of Gymnastics. At the age of 14 Tanner made the varsity cheerleading team at Douglas County High School. Tanner and his team went on to win with an undefeated season which included taking 1st at Mile High Regionals, receiving an invite to the national competition in Florida, and winning the Colorado High School State Championships in December of that year. At the national competition his team placed 12th in the nation. In his sophomore year Tanner would continue on to another undefeated season and receive another invite to Nationals. This season the team would place 20th.
Junior year was when college started to become an offer. Tanner was nominated captain of the varsity program as the youngest captain that had been nominated. With yet another undefeated season and another invite to Nationals the team placed 8th in the nation. During the national competition, Tanner suffered a torn labrum in his shoulder requiring surgery the month after Nationals. That year Tanner received two honors which included the teammate that you couldn’t live without and also the leadership award.
Senior year, he was healed up and started another year as team captain. With one final undefeated season, the team would head down to Florida once again. This year they placed 3rd in the nation and Tanner individually received 6th in the nation with his stunt partner Kelly Runyan. During his final season Tanner suffered another injury, a herniated disc in his back. With college interest expressed he would decide on University of Kansas. Unfortunately, his back injury would not heal correctly and he ended his competitive cheerleading career. Tanner has been coaching cheer and gymnastics ever since. Tanner started coaching in 2011 and has been with CRSG since March 2013.
